[1mThe Rules[0m
The goal of the game is, to put the 72 stones on the board. Each stone is
characterizised by a combination of one out of six colors and one out of
six symbols. This gives 36 different stones, and there there are two of
every kind.
In the beginning there are six stones on the board, and at the top of the
right side, there is a stone shown, that you must place on the board. The
stone can only be placed on a field, on the following three conditions:
[33;40m1) The field must be adjacent to at least one stone.[0m
[33;40m2) The stone must correspond with all adjacent stones in color and/or
symbol.[0m
[33;40m3) The number of neigbours of same colors, and the number of neigbours of
same symbol must not differ more than 1.[0m
The more neighbours a stone has, the higher is the score you get:
1 neighbour (1-Way) : 1 point
2 neighbours (2-Way) : 2 points
3 neighbours (3-Way) : 4 points
4 neighbours (4-Way) : 8 points
If you make a 4-way you'll get a bonus (25 points for the first 4-Way, 50
for the second, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 5000, 10000, 25000 and
finally 50000 (fifty thousand!)).
After each 4-Way the points for all following moves are doubled, i.e 2,4,8
and 16 points after the first 4-Way, 4,8,16,32 after the second, and so on.
[1mAbout the Program Itself[0m
After starting the program, there appears a menu-screen, and you hear a
piece of music (J.S.Bach: Praeludium #3 / 'Das wohltemperierte Klavier').
There are 7 menu-entries, which you can select by clicking the little
colored squares with the mouse:
[4mSINGLE PLAYER:[0m
This selects the single-player-mode. The board appears, and at the right
side the current stone is displayed (on the 'touchstone'). Below that, the
remaining stones are displayed as small squares.
The stones are ordered by random, but it is made sure, that the six
starting-stones contain all colors and symbols! You can place the current
stone onto the board by clicking on an empty field. This continues, until
you cannot place another stone.
By pressing the [1mHELP[0m key, you can get a help-requester, which can give you
some help:
MOVES: Shows all possible positions for the current stone.
TILES: Shows the remaining stones.
UNDO : Takes back previous moves (back to the start).
REDO : Repeats moves, taken back by UNDO.
ATTENTION!
The use of these helps will be mentioned in the hi-score-table!
The requester gives you also the possibility to RESTART the game with the
same sequence of the stones, and to END the GAME, and get back to the
menu-screen. CANCEL closes the help-requester without doing anything.
All helping-funcions can also be called by pressing a key: M=MOVES,
T=TILES, U=UNDO, R=REDO. There is no key for RESTART, and for END GAME you
have to press the ESC key.
By pressing the S key, you can toggle the sound (see also the menu-entry
MUSIC, below).
To end a game (no stones left, no field for a stone or what else), you have
to use END GAME or press the ESC key.
If your score is high enough, you can enter your name in the hall of fame
(which is saved on disk).
[4mTWO PLAYER:[0m
This mode works exactly the same as the one-player-mode, except it is for
two players (funny isn't it). The two players place the stones in turn.
The mouse-pointer indicates who's turn it is.
If a player uses help for the TILES, this is mentioned for both players,
the other help-functions are only mentioned for the player who called them.
There is a seperate page (or wall) in the hall of fame, because in
two-player-mode, you get usually less points, for the other player get
about the half of them (if he is as good/bad as you).
[4mTOURNAMENT:[0m
In this mode, you can play the [1msame sequence of stones[0m many times, so that
you can make a turnament with friends, or something like this. Except of
that, it works almost the same like the one-player-mode.
At the beginning you're asked, wether you want to continue the current
tournament (CONTINUE) or to start a new one (NEW). CANCEL gets you back to
the menu-screen. The stone-sequence of the current tournament is allways
saved, so you can continue a tournament also if you stopped the game
meanwhile.
In this mode, no help is allowed, what is also told you if you try. And of
course there is a special page in the hall of fame, for the current
tournament. It is erased if a new tournament is started.
[4mMUSIC:[0m
With this entry, you can toggle between music, sound effects (only some
clicking :-( ), and absolute silence (for better concentrating). You can
do the same also with the S key while playing.
[4mCREDITS:[0m
Gives some informations about the program.
[4mHIGH SCORES:[0m
Shows the three sides of the hall of fame.
[4mQUIT OUT:[0m
Quits the game. Please leave the program allways with this entry, to make
sure that the highscores are saved!
[1mSome Tactics[0m
The most important point to get a high score, is to make as much 4-Ways as
possible. Here is one strategy, which works rather fine:
[33;42m [0m We begin with one of the starting-stones,
[33;42m [32;43mO[31;42m [0m for exmaples the one in the upper left
[33;42m [0m corner (here a circle on blue ground).
[33;42m [0m
[33;42m [0m
[33;42m [0m Now we place stones with the same symbol and
[33;42m [32;43mO[31;40mO[33;42mO [0m arbirtary color first to the right side, and
[33;42m [31;43mĂ—[31;42m [31;42mO [0m then below, and stones with the same color
[33;42m [30;43m·[32;43m@[31;42m [0m and arbitrary symbol first below, and then
[33;42m [0m to the right.
[33;42m [0m Now we have just to wait for the same stone
[33;42m [32;43mO[31;40mO[33;42mO [0m as in the corner ([32;43mO[0m), and place it onto the
[33;42m [31;43mĂ—[32;43mO[31;42mO [0m free field in the middle. This field has to
[33;42m [30;43m·[32;43m@[31;42m [0m neighbours with same color, and to with same
[33;42m [0m symbol, so it works.
Of course this only works, if the stone for the middle doesn't appear to
early, and of course you can develop a lot of other strategies.
[1mThe Technical Side[0m
The install-program in this directory creates a auto-booting game-disk, so
there isn't more to say to the installation. The disk should never be
write-protected, because the program tries to save the hiscores on disk,
which will not work if the disk is write protected.
By the way, english-speaking presons should remove the line containing the
"setmap d" command in the startup-sequence. This line is only for german
users. If you have an other keyboard (french, dutch ...), please modify
this line to please your keyboard, and do not forget to copy the needed
file to devs:keymaps!
[31;42mThe program needs the [1mmedplayer.library[0;31;42m in the LIBS: directory![0m
The medplayer.library is © 1990 by Teijo Kinnunen and is FreeWare. It
allows to use music developed with the MED in own programs. Thanx Teijo!!
Also thanx to Christian Siens, for the AudioSupport module on the AMOK#58
disk.
The font narrowpenguin is created by myself and also freeware!
Have fun! [3m-Rob-[0m
